POSITION DESCRIPTION AN D DUTIES

 

 


Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Information Officer, the Academic Technologies Manager in the Instructional Computing and Information Technology (ICIT) organization is responsible for managing a range of academic technologies including course management systems, a student response system, a media management system, and a course and classroom reservations system. A critical focus of the job, in consultation with the Deputy Chief Information Officer, is the management and support for all aspects of Blackboard. The Academic Technologies Manager will be the project manager on significant technology projects across the entire enterprise, including the major Blackboard 8 upgrade project, iTunes university implementation project, and the new technology implementation projects arising from the presidential faculty technology initiative. S/he is responsible for the systems management of ICIT academic systems, both those arising from new projects as well as legacy systems storing and serving academic data and software. One critical aspect of this management is to oversee the adaptation of the academic systems to work closely with the databases, software, and other technologies on existing ICIT and CUNY systems. This person will take a proactive role in recommending, purchasing, implementing, and managing technology upgrades and improvements, as well as recommending effective policies and processes that ensure that Hunter’s academic technologies operate in a way that meets the needs of students and faculty. Troubleshoots technical problems with academic technologies. Manages technical relationship with academic technology vendors. Consults with language lab staff regarding management of media server for language learning materials. Works with web systems staff to integrate instructional materials hosted on content management system and/or media server into academic systems. Communicates regularly and proactively with the academic systems user community, including faculty, students, and administrative staff, regarding upgrades, policies, and procedures. S/he will directly manage at least two information systems aides and multiple college assistants. Other related responsibilities as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

 


A bachelor’s degree and six years of related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications


• Experience working in a higher education environment
• Expertise and at least two years experience in managing and supporting all aspects of Blackboard and other academic systems
• Experience managing systems based on Unix, Windows, and Macintosh platforms
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentations to groups
