POSITION DESCRIPTION AN D DUTIES

 

Reporting to the Provost and the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Provost provides vision, leadership, and support for research and a wide-range of academic efforts that include academic program reviews and planning, undergraduate and graduate education, and educational technologies and resources at Hunter College.

The Associate Provost oversees the research centers, the libraries, the Office of Instructional Computing and Information Technology, the Center for Distance Learning, the animal facility, and many more learning centers around the College. He/she administers a variety of faculty and student award programs and serves as a liaison to the Animal Care and Human Subjects Committees. The Associate Provost also acts on behalf of the Provost when required, writes reports and policy statements, and performs other management responsibilities as assigned.

The Associate Provost will help develop and implement a coordinated plan to strengthen Hunter’s research agenda through an improved research enterprise and a comprehensive set of faculty and students development initiatives and will work closely with the Provost, Deans and the faculty in supporting Hunter’s growing inventory of graduate programs and in attracting excellent students to Hunter. The Associate Provost will also coordinate, collaborate, and communicate across schools and divisions on matters pertaining to educational resource and technology planning, implementation, and support resulting in enhanced student advising and learning, with particular attention to the library.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

An earned doctoral degree in a discipline represented at the college, a record of research and publication sufficient for a senior level faculty appointment and progressive administrative, fiscal and leadership experience, preferably for academic issues in a university setting, are required.

The successful candidate will also possess strong interpersonal, communication and facilitation/collaboration skills, the ability to develop and communicate a shared vision within and external to the institution, a commitment to higher education in a multi-cultural setting, and the ability to function effectively on the Provost’s and the President’s senior leadership teams.

Experience with issues related to graduate education and knowledge of the application of IT to higher education, national and international trends in higher education technology applications and usage, and best practices in teaching and best uses of academic technology to enhance teaching, research and scholarly activity are strongly preferred.
