Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Information Officer, the Academic Technologies Manager in the Instructional Computing and Information Technology (ICIT) organization is responsible for managing a range of academic technologies including course management systems, a student response system, a media management system, and a course and classroom reservations system. A critical focus of the job, in consultation with the Deputy Chief Information Officer, is the management and support for all aspects of Blackboard. The Academic Technologies Manager will be the project manager on significant technology projects across the entire enterprise, including the major Blackboard 8 upgrade project, iTunes university implementation project, and the new technology implementation projects arising from the presidential faculty technology initiative. S/he is responsible for the systems management of ICIT academic systems, both those arising from new projects as well as legacy systems storing and serving academic data and software. One critical aspect of this management is to oversee the adaptation of the academic systems to work closely with the databases, software, and other technologies on existing ICIT and CUNY systems. This person will take a proactive role in recommending, purchasing, implementing, and managing technology upgrades and improvements, as well as recommending effective policies and processes that ensure that Hunter’s academic technologies operate in a way that meets the needs of students and faculty. Troubleshoots technical problems with academic technologies. Manages technical relationship with academic technology vendors. Consults with language lab staff regarding management of media server for language learning materials. Works with web systems staff to integrate instructional materials hosted on content management system and/or media server into academic systems. Communicates regularly and proactively with the academic systems user community, including faculty, students, and administrative staff, regarding upgrades, policies, and procedures. S/he will directly manage at least two information systems aides and multiple college assistants. Other related responsibilities as assigned.

The Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging and Longevity of Hunter College, an internationally renowned academic gerontology center founded in 1975, invites applications for the new position of Co-Director.


Reporting to the Hunter College Provost jointly with the Brookdale Center Co-Director for Research, the new Brookdale Center Co-Director will serve as Director of the Sadin Institute for Law, Public Policy and Aging to:


• Direct all Center public policy, advocacy, education, and elder law activities, including the work of the Jacob Reingold Institute for Prevention of Financial Abuse of the Elderly.
• Shape the Center’s future development in the areas of public policy, advocacy, education, and elder law.
• Broaden the Center’s policy analysis capability.
• Collaborate with the Brookdale Center Co-Director for Research to identify and pursue opportunities for research that informs service delivery and public policy, and build on this research to analyze and develop policy proposals.
• Partner with Hunter/CUNY schools, foundations, community-based organizations, and government agencies to produce creative public policy, education, and advocacy initiatives on emerging issues.
• Pursue public and private funding for policy, advocacy, and elder law projects in collaboration with the Hunter Development Office.
• Represent the Center’s policy and advocacy expertise in the wider community.
• Strengthen recognition and support for the Center’s policy, advocacy, education, and elder law activities.

The Co-Director should be a dynamic individual who can expand the Center’s ability to undertake initiatives in public policy, advocacy, education, and laws affecting the elderly. A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Juris Doctor degree preferred.

The Deputy Director works closely with the Director of Human Resources in developing, implementing and evaluating on-going HR policies, programs, functions and activities. Reporting to the Director of Advising Services, the Director of First Year Advising and Transition Programs supervises a team of professional advisors to promote a positive transition for first year students from the point of admission through the end of the second semester.

o Partner with Admissions, Welcome Center, School of Arts & Sciences, and other areas to ensure a constant message to incoming first year students that promotes yield.
o Develop and implement programs to foster a sense of community among new students.
o Promote new students’ understanding of Hunter, its academic expectations, and paths to success.
o Inform new students about critical support resources, policies and procedures.


First Year Advising


• Supervise the first year advising team to ensure all new first years are assigned to a professional advisor for their first two semesters of the college.
• Utilize advising as a teaching method, to ensure students learn the skills, competencies and information to clarify goals, develop meaningful academic plans.
• Develop and implement an early warning system to identify and contact at-risk first year students.
• Prepare new students for the transition after the second semester to general advising programs and faculty advising.

The Urban Pubic Health Program (UPH) of the School of Health Sciences, Hunter College seeks an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as its Associate Director for the Immigration and Health Initiative (IHI). The Associate Director will provide direct assistance to the Director in the oversight of daily operations, including fiscal and administrative management, and will work closely with UPH grant-seeking and program delivery faculty and staff to conceptualize new projects and ensure organizational consistency. The Associate Director will have direct responsibility for the development and management of grant-funded opportunities and the preparation of municipal, state, federal and private foundation funding proposals. In addition, the Associate Director will provide leadership in the identification, planning, and development of new program opportunities utilizing community outreach and networking to accomplish these goals, and will work with staff and faculty to identify new funding sources/resources.

Responsibilities will include directing liaison efforts with other Centers across Hunter College; planning, implementing and publicizing major initiatives, special events, and conferences; and management of budget and staffing for the IHI. The Associate Director will initiate contacts with potential new project development and educational market opportunities; direct and facilitate strategic planning with faculty and senior administrators; and track the progress of performance goals. Specific duties include program development; budget oversight; staff supervision; needs assessments; performance monitoring; identifying, developing, and maintaining collaborative relationships with community organizations, institutions, government agencies, and professional associations; providing management support to tasks forces, work groups and committees; preparing reports and analyses at the request of the Director; representing the Initiative and Urban Health Program in a wide variety of settings on and off campus; and performing other related duties at the request of the Director.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

 


A bachelor’s degree in social work, public health or related field plus six years of experience required. A doctoral degree with at least two years of progressively responsible research development and management experience in an academic setting preferred. Knowledge of immigration and urban public health issues is highly desirable. Experience with federal grant development and community/public relations is an asset.

The Hunter College Libraries are seeking an experienced individual in facilities and space planning, and the implementation of technology and its infrastructure. Reporting to the Associate Dean and Chief Librarian, the Director will play a major role in conceptualizing renovation and construction plans and work with the Library Planner, Chief Information Officer and other appropriate personnel.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


• Manage all construction and renovation projects in terms of design, scope, timeline, institutional fit and alignment with the available resources
• Make recommendations, advise and monitor all physical changes to Hunter College Libraries.
• Review drawings and designs prepared by architectural and engineering consultants as well as internal staff in concert with established design and planning guidelines.
• Oversee budgeting, procurement and installation on all capital outlay projects for Library and recommend purchase of new and maintain the inventory of existing furniture.
• Partner with the Office of Instructional Computing and Information Technology (ICIT) to define problems, identify the deficiencies and develop solutions which enhance the technology infrastructure of the Library.

Hunter College , the second oldest college in The City University of New York, is a coeducational, fully accredited college, with a large and diverse faculty in the liberal arts and sciences and in several professional schools. POSITION DESCRIPTION AN D DUTIES

 

 

The Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions will be assisting the Director of Graduate Admissions in managing the daily operations of the Graduate Admissions Office. The Graduate Admissions Office is a busy, service-oriented office that processes graduate applications and manages the admissions process for the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Education and Health Professions.

The responsibilities for the Assistant Director include but are not limited to:

1. Supervision of staff and daily operations:

• Supervise all full-time and part-time staff working in the Graduate Admissions Office; address individual performance issues in a timely manner.

• Oversee the graduate matriculation process from submission of the application, through collection of the necessary supporting documents (official transcripts, letters of recommendation, test scores) and preparation of the files for each Faculty Committee’s review.

• Oversee the processing of all applications for graduate non-matriculated status and readmissions.

• Oversee all activities associated with graduate transfer of credit.

• Coordinate the review of the complete applications by the Program Faculty Committees and the Dean of the School.

2. Report:

• Assist the Director with preparation of summary reports of application activity throughout and at the end of each admissions cycle.

3. Student service and support:

• Assistant in development of, implement and oversee effective student support processes.

• Reinforce a customer service mindset among staff.

• Communicate with applicants about the decisions of their applications and assist them through the commitment and enrollment process.

4. Relationship management with key stakeholders:

• Build strong working relationships with Graduate Advisors, Deans and representatives from other Student Services Offices (Registrar, Bursar, etc.) through day to day activities.

• Effectively and responsibly troubleshoot admissions related issues experience with stakeholders.

5. Technology implementation and process improvement:

• Assist in implementation of supporting technology, including alignment of work processes.

• Monitor process effectiveness and act upon opportunities to improve internal process in a timely manner.

6. Recruitment:

• Coordinate planning of recruitment events and oversee the staff preparation in these events.

• Coordinate the creation and be responsible for the update of all electronic and published application and recruitment materials concerning graduate admissions.

To be effective, the Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions must develop a thorough understanding of each graduate program’s admissions requirements and curriculum and general College policies. The Assistant Director will work closely with other Student Service offices (i.e. Registrar, Bursar, and Financial Aid) and IT to assistant graduate applicants and students through the application and enrollment process

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

 

The successful candidate must possess the following professional and personal qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of full-time experience in the field required.

Excellent managerial and leadership skills, including the ability to supervise and motivate a diverse service-oriented staff.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience and understanding of international educational systems and credentials.

Computer literacy and technological savvy, including the ability to learn the College’s computer systems, on-line application and recruitment technologies and web management technologies.

Quantitative skills.

Customer service and relationship management skills.

Problem solving skills.
